Helping hand for playgroups
PLAYGROUPS operating across the City of Belmont will be given free access to council-owned community facilities in a move to support young families.
Belmont councillors approved the change last Tuesday as part of their annual policy manual review.
The change was made to encourage more people to be involved with and supported by other parents.
“It is great that we can do this for parents to get together,” Deputy Mayor Robert Rossi said.
City community and statutory services director Juliette Hammah said mothers groups and playgroups tended to have a limited timespan, which made managing membership fees problematic.
She said the council previously often waived building hire fees.
