BUY FAIRTRADE TO CERTIFY A FUTURE
DO YOU know where your Christmas presents came from? Was anyone exploited to ensure you could spoil your family and friends? Fairtrade is a certification system that offers farmers and workers in developing countries a better deal and improved terms of trade. Fairtrade Australia chief executive Molly Harriss Olson said Australians and New Zealanders spent $352 million on Fairtrade products last year. “In the season of giving, we’d love to see those looking forward to Christmas giving twice – to their loved ones under the tree, and by ensuring the workers and producers of those presents have brighter futures,” she said. More than 1.6 million people in 75 countries supply the resources and labour for Fairtrade certified products.
