WA comes to the fore at cham­pi­onships

THE WA girl’s team last week won the Aus­tralian In­ter­state Golf Cham­pi­onships.

Led by Pen­rhos Col­lege stu­dent Mad­dis­onHin­son Tolchard, it is the first vic­tory for the Sand­grop­ers since 2005.

Yeah-Jin Lee, Kirsten Rudge­ley and Kathryn Nor­ris only tasted de­feat once through­out their five matches, with Ab­bie Teas­dale and Eve Co­hen show­ing con­sis­tency all week.

The last day of the se­ries be­came some­what of a for­mal­ity, with WA hav­ing al­ready sealed the ti­tle a day ear­lier af­ter a crush­ing 4-1 win over Queens­land. WA won the Aus­tralian In­ter­state Golf Cham­pi­ons.

NSW put in a solid per­for­mance to knock off the cham­pi­ons 4.50.5

on the fi­nal day, mean­ing the trav­el­ling side fin­ished sec­ond by just 0.5 points.

Queens­land South Aus­tralia and fin­ished the other vic­tors on the morn­ing, with Queens­land round­ing out the top three.

Coach Ker­rod Gray said he was thrilled and put the per­for­mance down to hav­ing a very co­he­sive group of girls in the team.

“(The girls) re­ally bonded as a team and each was equally as in­stru­men­tal in all of our vic­to­ries,” he said.

“We did a lot of hard work around the greens, which re­ally helped us in the tough stages of the tour­na­ment.”

Cap­ping off her stel­lar week, Tolchard took out the In­ter­state and Ju­nior Am­a­teur crown.
