Penrhos College students are preparing for a production of The Little Mermaid that tells the story of Ariel, an adventurous young mermaid fascinated with the human world above.

REHEARSALS for the Penrhos College student production of The Little Mermaid have been going swimmingly in anticipation of next Thursday’s opening.

Set under and above the high seas, The Little Mermaid tells the story of Ariel, an adventurous young mermaid fascinated with the human world above.

Cast as Scuttle the seagull, Year 12 student Grace Pooley said she was excited to get back on the stage.

“I did the production in Year 9 but haven’t since, so I’m really happy to be back on the stage for my final year of school,” she said.

“I’ve definitely found the acting part challenging as I’m much more comfortable singing and dancing, and finding a balance between the animal and human aspect of Scuttle has been tricky.

“But the dance is so much fun to perform and I’m so excited for everyone to see it.”

About 90 students are involved on stage, in the pit and backstage, combined with unique costumes, original choreography and an elaborate set.

The production opens on July 26 at 7.30pm, with additional performances on July 27 and 28, including a Saturday matinee.

Limited seats are available.
