FALLOUT from the Belmont Redcliffe Bombers Year 10s’ grand final loss continued last week as the WA Football Commission (WAFC) confirmed it was investigating an after-thegame incident.

In a statement on Friday, a WAFC spokesman confirmed the incident involving an umpire but could not elaborate on potential outcomes.

Earlier reports suggested one Belmont player had punched and two other players had pushed the umpire after South Perth Stingrays won the game 13.3 (81) to 5.12 (42).

Belmont had lost only once during the regular season but the minor premiers also dropped their qualifying final against fourth-placed South Perth three weeks before the grand final rematch.

A Belmont player also reportedly copped a red card in a semi-final against the Morley Bulldogs.

The WAFC spokesman said it had offered support to the umpire.

“The WAFC has a zerotolerance approach to any form of umpire abuse and will ensure a full investigation is carried out to determine exactly what has occurred and that the appropriate penalties are applied at the Community Football Tribunal,” he said.

“Umpires are critical to our game, are highly valued, and should be respected at all times.

“The WAFC calls on all clubs and coaches to help ensure their teams are demonstrating the behaviour and standards expected to ensure community football is safe, fun and fair for everyone.”
