Family business still running hot

FINLEY Hot Bread is a family-run business, that warms your heart and waters your mouth.

It’s been ten years since Colin and Karen Macdermid took over the business from Colin’s brother Allen.

Allen purchased the business from John Groenewegen in the early 1980s, and during his time moved the store from next to the Finley Fish Shop to its present location in Murray St.

Colin and Karen took over the business on July 2, 2001.

Since that day the couple’s three children have been involved, with Leisa (Desailly) and Kristy (Ashcroft) serving out the front and Mark cooking in the back.

Together with pastry chef Damien Gow, oven man Graeme Lewis and staff Pauline Boldiston, Susan Simpson, Vicki Haynes, Lisa Harrison, Fran Burdack, Jacqui Jackson and Renee Pether, the Finley Hot Bread team cooks up many tempting treats.

Their range includes award-winning pies, fresh bread, cakes and cookies, and an extensive salad bar.

In winter time their hot dogs, meat and gravy rolls and baked potatoes can warm the coldest days.

And a special tip - Karen’s favourite meal is the turkey foccacia, while the steak, cheese, onion and bacon pie is her pick of the pastry.
