Finley Library rapt with Chrissie’s ‘Wrap’
FINLEY’S part in the ABC’s Wrap With Love received a substantial boost last week when Chrissie Wastle delivered the results of her fantastic effort for the year to Finley Library.
Chrissie has her aunty helping with the supply of wool and mum Helen gets the job of sewing the squares together so that Chrissie can go all out.
So much so, she ended up with RSI at one stage and needed support for her wrists! Well done, Chrissie.
Squares can still be left at the library until the competition closes at the end of the month.
●●● Finley Hospital Auxiliary will be holding their Annual General Meeting on July 29 at 2pm in the Nurses Home.
●●● Finley High School 150 Year Reunion committee will be holding their next meeting on Monday July 25 at 7pm at the Finley RS Club — all welcome.
The committee is doing a magnificent job organising and preparing for this momentous event and appreciates any new ideas and support forthcoming.
The winner of the design competition for the tea towel, which is part of the reunion souvenirs, will be announced soon and it is expected that the presentation will take place shortly after school resumes.
The catering committee will be contacting those who have written regarding catering stalls in the next week or so.
There has been a great deal of interest from past students — so much so that the closing date for registration has been extended until July 15.
Unfortunately, the phone number for contact Karen Peacock was incorrectly printed in the advertisement in the SRN advising of the extension of time last week.
The correct number for further information and registration with Karen is 0458 324 004.
●●● The winner of last week’s Lions Club wood raffle was Terry Koschel.
●●● Probus has been up and running in Finley for ten years now with member numbers averaging approximately 125 and coming from Finley, Tocumwal, Jerilderie, Berrigan and Oaklands.
To celebrate the tenth anniversary a luncheon was held on Tuesday July 5 with the adopted theme being ‘on a cruise ship’ and all members invited to dress accordingly. Sixty-two members enjoyed the meal prepared by Elaine Ball (Cottage Catering).
Entertainment officer Olwyn Mathers and her team arranged many items and contests.
Max Whittaker gave several renditions on his mouth organ, guitar and sang some of his own compositions.
Captain of the ship, Faye, exercised her authority over the crew and cut the decorated birthday cake.
Faye was the foundation president of Finley Probus, serving three years in this position, and has given excellent leadership.
Lois Harley was awarded the ‘ best presented sailor’ with Marj Kable and Cheryl Bodycoat being mentioned in dispatches; all being suitably rewarded.
It was a great occasion and enjoyed by all.
●●● Helen Wastle has recently returned home from a trip to Bunbury in Western Australia after visiting daughter Katrina and her family.
Helen had lots of fun spending time with and catching up on her grandchildren’s progress. She strongly denies that she took advantage of the opportunity to spoil them!
Helen advises that Bunbury is a beautiful spot and she will be taking many more trips to the area.
●●● Ray and Marie Koschel have returned from a trip to the east coast where they caught up with former Finley resident Graham Burton.
Friends of Graham will be pleased to hear that he is recovering well from recent surgery at Bega Hospital. He is now home and hopes to return to the bowling green soon.
After winning the local association singles, Graham was disappointed he could not compete in the zone matches due to ill health.
●●● Finley Chamber of Commerce, Industry & Agriculture Annual General Dinner Meeting will take place this evening at the Finley Bowling Club at 7pm.
●●● YouTube search information for Max Whittaker was incorrectly printed in this column last week. Those interested in following Max and his own music compositions, including his award winning submissions, should search for Max Whittker without the ‘a’ in his name. Apologies for any inconvenience.
●●● Items for ‘From Finley’ may be submitted by phoning 0428 293 922 or email anne.free[email protected]pond.com or left at the Southern Riverina News office.
Great effort . . . Chrissie Wastle makes another warm contribution to the Finley Library.
