Music to close Education Week
TOCUMWAL Public School will close Education Week with a school assembly on Friday at 12.15pm.
Performing a musical item at the assembly will be 16 Tocumwal students who are heading off to the Sydney Opera House for an August 10 event.
Family, friends and community members are encouraged to come along for a preview of the Sydney show.
The annual event, called the Festival of Instrumental Music, is a NSW Department of Education program organised through the Arts Unit NSW.
The students are required to learn three pieces of music ‘off by heart’ on the recorder.
There are five different parts for the recorder (bass, tenor, treble, descant and beginner descant).
Our students are playing two of these, being the descant and the beginner descant.
The students will be joined by about 900 other young musicians who have all learned the same repertoire to perform together with a full orchestra.
The result is an incredible sound that is quite unique and beautiful.
The repertoire is challenging and the students must practice daily for almost six months to ensure success.
The persistence and determination demonstrated by this recorder group is impressive.
For the majority of the group, this is their first experience at playing in the Opera House with an orchestra.
If anyone would like to book the group to perform please let me know as the students enjoy performing and it is good practice for them too.
