In­dus­try leader leaves DPI

AF­TER 40 years with the NSW Depart­ment of Pri­mary In­dus­tries, and a ca­reer de­voted to the ir­ri­ga­tion in­dus­try, one of the Rive­rina’s finest agri­cul­ture ex­perts is re­tir­ing. TOPCROP pro­gram, and to Ricecheck which is be­ing used in a num­ber of over­seas coun­tries with some through projects he has led.

‘‘The Ricecheck pro­gram has had an enor­mous im­pact on the pro­duc­tiv­ity and prof­itabil­ity of the NSW rice in­dus­try and the liveli­hoods of ir­ri­ga­tors.

‘‘John is highly re­garded in the rice and grains in­dus­tries, and by col­leagues in NSW DPI, and I can per­son­ally reaf­firm this level of re­spect and grat­i­tude for a job well done.’’

In his re­tire­ment, Mr Lacy is look­ing for­ward to a life­style bal­anced be­tween fam­ily, friends, staying fit, car­a­van­ning and trav­el­ling to Europe with his wife Mar­garet.

He also in­tends to do some con­sul­tancy work re­lat­ing to bench­mark­ing, dis­cus­sion groups, ir­ri­ga­tion farm­ing and over­seas rice projects.
