Industry leader leaves DPI
AFTER 40 years with the NSW Department of Primary Industries, and a career devoted to the irrigation industry, one of the Riverina’s finest agriculture experts is retiring. TOPCROP program, and to Ricecheck which is being used in a number of overseas countries with some through projects he has led.
‘‘The Ricecheck program has had an enormous impact on the productivity and profitability of the NSW rice industry and the livelihoods of irrigators.
‘‘John is highly regarded in the rice and grains industries, and by colleagues in NSW DPI, and I can personally reaffirm this level of respect and gratitude for a job well done.’’
In his retirement, Mr Lacy is looking forward to a lifestyle balanced between family, friends, staying fit, caravanning and travelling to Europe with his wife Margaret.
He also intends to do some consultancy work relating to benchmarking, discussion groups, irrigation farming and overseas rice projects.
