Ivan­hoe Bowl­ing Club vis­i­tors ‘roll’ into Fin­ley

Fin­ley Last Thurs­day we had bowlers vis­it­ing from Ivan­hoe Bowl­ing Club.

There were 41 bowlers in all and the win­ners were Paul and Matt Mur­phy.

Run­ners-up were Betty Robin­son and Peter Smith (visi­tor).

Keno win­ners were Mick Mar­aldo and Karl Bergmans.

A great day was had by all and we look for­ward the Ivan­hoe Bowl­ing Club re­turn­ing again next year.

The sev­enth round of the spon­sored ac­cu­mu­la­tor event that was post­poned last week due to the wet weather was run and won this week by Nan Smith and Mick Lawlor.

About 24 bowlers were in at­ten­dance and bowls was fol­lowed by an­other en­joy­able bar­be­cue with many thanks as al­ways go­ing to Des for or­gan­is­ing our meal.

The lead­ers in the ac­cu­mu­la­tor event, be­fore last Sun­day were, Mick Chap­lin on top, fol­lowed by Kathy Wil­liams and Alan Cowan.

There was no win­ner this week in our lucky num­ber mem­bers draw so this will jack­pot again to next Sun­day.

Keith Hawkins was the un­lucky num­ber holder this week.

This week’s coach­ing clinic, to be held on Fri­day, will be run from 3pm till 4pm and with pen­nant sea­son fast ap­proach­ing, it’s time to get some num­bers hap­pen­ing at these very im­por­tant ses­sions.

We have three coaches avail­able for pen­nant play­ers and also for be­gin­ners.

Re­minder to our lady bowlers that the meet­ing to dis­cuss shirts and com­ing events will be held on to­day, at 4pm.

Pen­nant sea­son starts this year on Oc­to­ber 1.

We will be field­ing a team of 12 play­ers for divi­sion four.

Any bowlers who would like to play please con­tact the club.

Com­ing events: To­day is cards at 1.30pm, all wel­come. To­day Ladies meet­ing at 4pm to dis­cuss shirts and com­ing events.

Thurs­day bowls at 1pm, names in by 11am please, MDP or en­ter own team. Meat raf­fle at 6pm. Fri­day raf­fles and mem­bers draw at 7.30pm.

This Fri­day night from 6 to 8pm, Lyn­sie Reid, our fully qual­i­fied chef will be pre­par­ing an­other great meal for us to en­joy. Cost per adult is only $20. Meals will also be avail­able in the Work­ers Bar, so get along to the Fin­ley Bowl­ing club this Fri­day night and en­joy a great meal plus raf­fles and mem­bers draw, vis­i­tors are al­ways wel­come.

This Sun­day will be the 8th week of the spon­sored ac­cu­mu­la­tor event.

Names in by 9.30am for 10.15am start. Fish and prawn raf­fles and hot chook raf­fles fol­low bowls at 12.30pm and the lucky num­ber mem­bers draw.

Raf­fles duty is Mick Chap­lin and John Bolitho and match com­mit­tee is Brian An­der­son and Di Re­tal­lick.

The new ros­ter is on the board; please take the time to check it out.

Au­gust 4 Mens 55 and over starts at 10 am at Jer­ilderie. Au­gust 7 - Open­ing day. Names in by 11am and please note the new start time of 1.30pm. Mixed 3s, DFP 2 games x 8 ends.

Whites or club colours to be worn.

This is to be fol­lowed by af­ter­noon tea and all ladies and men are asked bring a plate of food please.

Au­gust 13 and 14 is the men’s spring tour­na­ment and we have room for only two more teams.

En­tries close for this $6000 event on Au­gust 1 so get your en­tries in now.

Au­gust 17 - K & C Bowls visit from 10am to 2pm.

Last word: Re­cently, two gentle­men were seen prac­tic­ing their pen­nant shots, when a fu­neral pro­ces­sion passed by. The first gen­tle­man was seen to be- come quite solemn as he re­moved his hat and bowed his head.

He re­mained this way un­til the last ve­hi­cle had passed.

The sec­ond gen­tle­man then com­mented on the gen­uine mark of re­spect shown by his friend.

‘‘It was the least that I could do’’ said the first gen­tle­man; ‘‘af­ter all, I was mar­ried to her for 25 years.’’
