Ivanhoe Bowling Club visitors ‘roll’ into Finley
Finley Last Thursday we had bowlers visiting from Ivanhoe Bowling Club.
There were 41 bowlers in all and the winners were Paul and Matt Murphy.
Runners-up were Betty Robinson and Peter Smith (visitor).
Keno winners were Mick Maraldo and Karl Bergmans.
A great day was had by all and we look forward the Ivanhoe Bowling Club returning again next year.
The seventh round of the sponsored accumulator event that was postponed last week due to the wet weather was run and won this week by Nan Smith and Mick Lawlor.
About 24 bowlers were in attendance and bowls was followed by another enjoyable barbecue with many thanks as always going to Des for organising our meal.
The leaders in the accumulator event, before last Sunday were, Mick Chaplin on top, followed by Kathy Williams and Alan Cowan.
There was no winner this week in our lucky number members draw so this will jackpot again to next Sunday.
Keith Hawkins was the unlucky number holder this week.
This week’s coaching clinic, to be held on Friday, will be run from 3pm till 4pm and with pennant season fast approaching, it’s time to get some numbers happening at these very important sessions.
We have three coaches available for pennant players and also for beginners.
Reminder to our lady bowlers that the meeting to discuss shirts and coming events will be held on today, at 4pm.
Pennant season starts this year on October 1.
We will be fielding a team of 12 players for division four.
Any bowlers who would like to play please contact the club.

Thursday bowls at 1pm, names in by 11am please, MDP or enter own team. Meat raffle at 6pm. Friday raffles and members draw at 7.30pm.
This Friday night from 6 to 8pm, Lynsie Reid, our fully qualified chef will be preparing another great meal for us to enjoy. Cost per adult is only $20. Meals will also be available in the Workers Bar, so get along to the Finley Bowling club this Friday night and enjoy a great meal plus raffles and members draw, visitors are always welcome.
This Sunday will be the 8th week of the sponsored accumulator event.
Names in by 9.30am for 10.15am start. Fish and prawn raffles and hot chook raffles follow bowls at 12.30pm and the lucky number members draw.
Raffles duty is Mick Chaplin and John Bolitho and match committee is Brian Anderson and Di Retallick.

August 4 Mens 55 and over starts at 10 am at Jerilderie. August 7 - Opening day. Names in by 11am and please note the new start time of 1.30pm. Mixed 3s, DFP 2 games x 8 ends.
Whites or club colours to be worn.
This is to be followed by afternoon tea and all ladies and men are asked bring a plate of food please.
August 13 and 14 is the men’s spring tournament and we have room for only two more teams.
Entries close for this $6000 event on August 1 so get your entries in now.
August 17 - K & C Bowls visit from 10am to 2pm.
Last word: Recently, two gentlemen were seen practicing their pennant shots, when a funeral procession passed by. The first gentleman was seen to be- come quite solemn as he removed his hat and bowed his head.
He remained this way until the last vehicle had passed.
The second gentleman then commented on the genuine mark of respect shown by his friend.
‘‘It was the least that I could do’’ said the first gentleman; ‘‘after all, I was married to her for 25 years.’’
