Riverina Tourism to stand alone

Southern Riverina news - - News -

RIVERINA Regional Tourism (RRT) is opting to continue to stand alone, despite some Regional Tourism Organisations (RTO) choosing to amalgamate.

Concerns that an amalgamation of local tourism areas could see the local area linked with the outback or a similar RTO.

RRT executive officer Tina Jones, however, has said that this was ‘‘not the case’’.

Ms Jones said some tourism groups had considered merging, but said it was not on the agenda for the Riverina group.

‘‘There are amalgamations happening with other groups, and there have been incentives for doing that, but at this stage we’re not pursuing amalgamation,’’ she said.

‘‘As a board we would prefer to stand alone, and we are large enough that we can. Our area covers 19 local government areas.’’

RRT incorporates Jerilderie and Conargo Shires.

RRT is a memberbased organisation, which has a board of nine skills-based directors and an executive officer.

The key role of RRT is as a tourism marketing body for the Riverina.

The RRT is currently seeking applications for a new director.

For more information, or to receive an information pack, contact Ms Jones on 0427 630 349, or email natu[email protected]natourism.com.au. Applications close at 5pm on the September 23.
