Bee the best in spell­ing

BER­RI­GAN, Tocumwal, Fin­ley and Blighty Pub­lic Schools will this fort­night com­pete with 17 other schools in the Rive­rina Re­gional Fi­nal of the 2011 Premier’s Spell­ing Bee.

A to­tal of ten re­gional fi­nals are be­ing staged at 39 venues across the state be­tween Mon­day, Septem­ber 12 and Fri­day, Septem­ber 23.

Lo­cal stu­dents will travel to Hume Pub­lic School dur­ing the two weeks to com­pete.

Stu­dents suc­cess­ful at the re­gional fi­nals will then pro­ceed to the state fi­nal in Novem­ber, where the state’s best speller will be crowned. The Premier’s Spell­ing Bee en­cour­ages stu­dents from govern­ment schools across NSW to fo­cus on their spell­ing in a fun and com­pet­i­tive for­mat.

It was first launched in 2004 and has at­tracted record numbers of par­tic­i­pat­ing stu­dents ever since, with 115,445 NSW pub­lic school stu­dents sign­ing up this year.
