Region’s best scouts
FINLEY scouts Talei Holm and Rosie Archer represented the 1st Finley Scout Troop at a state rally recently.
They travelled with three other scouts from Gundagai, to Cataract Scout Park outside of Sydney for the rally.
Not only was the state scout rally a great experience, the local team pleced first in the Riverina, and eighth in the state from patrols.
Talei and Rosie stayed for two nights, carrying everything they needed in hiking packs while moving from base to base.
They said their favourite base was ‘‘definitely’’ the Army base.
While there, they learned how to make several different makeshift stretchers.
Other highlights were making it through an obstacle course, while being fired at with tennis balls and learning how to survive in the bush for a few days.
‘‘We also enjoyed an activity involving a mouse trap, wooden balls and party poppers to make a ball, which we had to find and disarm without it exploding,’’ they said.
