Jer­ilderie claims ‘ju­nior dou­ble’

JER­ILDERIE snared the ‘ju­nior dou­ble’ in Pi­cola District Foot­ball League grand fi­nal ac­tion on Sun­day.

The Dees claimed both the thirds and fourths flags in windy con­di­tions at Ber­ri­gan, knock­ing off the mi­nor premier in both re­spec­tive grades.

The un­der-17s knocked off their more fan­cied home ground ri­vals Ber­ri­gan by 25 points.

Fi­nal score: Jer­ilderie 11.7 (73) de­feated Ber­ri­gan 6.12 (48).

Samuel Sleigh was named best player afield with four goals for the Dees.

He was well sup­ported by Blair Hen­ery, Lach­lan Wat­son, Jye Hol­colmbe, Hamish Busk and Jack An­thony

Jake Dal­gliesh slot­ted two for Ber­ri­gan, with Ian Cong­don, Gor­don Pyle, Bradley Fyffe, Adrian Hickey and Murray Cameron the bet­ter play­ers.

Coach Peter Keat­ing played trib­ute to the team who he said had worked hard through­out the sea­son and de­served the win.

Keat­ing thanked Ber­ri­gan play­ers and coaches for a good con­test.

‘‘We were ex­cited about the con­test and it is great to come away with a win,’’ Keat­ing said.
