Jerilderie claims ‘junior double’
JERILDERIE snared the ‘junior double’ in Picola District Football League grand final action on Sunday.
The Dees claimed both the thirds and fourths flags in windy conditions at Berrigan, knocking off the minor premier in both respective grades.
The under-17s knocked off their more fancied home ground rivals Berrigan by 25 points.
Final score: Jerilderie 11.7 (73) defeated Berrigan 6.12 (48).
Samuel Sleigh was named best player afield with four goals for the Dees.
He was well supported by Blair Henery, Lachlan Watson, Jye Holcolmbe, Hamish Busk and Jack Anthony
Jake Dalgliesh slotted two for Berrigan, with Ian Congdon, Gordon Pyle, Bradley Fyffe, Adrian Hickey and Murray Cameron the better players.
Coach Peter Keating played tribute to the team who he said had worked hard throughout the season and deserved the win.
Keating thanked Berrigan players and coaches for a good contest.
‘‘We were excited about the contest and it is great to come away with a win,’’ Keating said.
