Kats too good for Finley Cats

Southern Riverina news - - Sport -

The Finley Cats succumbed to a solid Katunga team on Sunday in Murray Valley Cricket Association’s Division 2.

But the inexperienced Finley side stood tall with some excellent performances produced despite the narrow loss.

Batting first, the Cats lost skipper Whitty (2) early and when Isedale father and son combination of Scott (11) and Tom (4) departed the Cats were struggling at 3/22.

Some excellent batting however would follow. Bernie Roebuck (9) added 23 runs with Damien Wilson (27) to get the score to 45 and when Roebuck departed, Lachlan Calder (33) combined with Wilson to add a further 28. Wilson was caught soon after.

Calder though remained solid. He whacked four boundaries and a six in his knock and received further support from Sam Miles whose first taste of senior cricket resulted in a splendid 26 with three boundaries.

The Cats were eventually bowled out in 33 overs for 129.

The Cats needed to bowl well in order to win the match and the young squad gave their all.

Phil Leatham bowled eight consistent overs and took 1/17 early on but the home side looked in control.

Jarrod Morham took a classy 2/20 and Bernie Roebuck 2/7 but the Swans had too many guns and were able to get to the winning score with an over and three wickets to spare.

Skipper Whitty would like to send his appreciation to all those younger (and older) players who played this week with their support greatly appreciated to ensure a team was fielded.
