New Finley library to open in January
Construction work on the Finley Library and Early Intervention Centre is now finished.
Berrigan Shire general manager Rowan Perkins said the new building will be operational in early January.
The huge building, which was formally the Murray Irrigation office, will be fitted out with computers with internet access, an Early Learning Centre, Toy Library and children’s outdoor area, a young adults and children’s section and public meeting room with after hours access.
‘‘It is basically finished and looks fantastic, but there are still some outstanding minor works being to be done including some landscaping in the new year and work on the front of the building.’’
Mr Perkins said the decision to reconstruct the entrance to the library was only made recently, and will not be finished until mid February.
‘‘This can be made safe and more or less presentable while work is taking place and will not affect the operation of the library.’’
Mr Perkins said while there has not been an agreed date to relocate the Library and Early Intervention services to the new building, it is expected to be early to midJanuary, with an official opening to be held in February.
Berrigan Shire Councillors inspected the building last week.
