In response to the recently released draft Murray Darling Basin Plan, Berrigan Shire Council (BSC) will commission Hyder Consulting to model its.

The plan proposes to take 2750 gigalitres of productive water from local food producers.

BSC has a contract with Hyder Consulting Pty Ltd to complete the ‘‘Strengthening Central Murray Irrigation Communities’’ project funded by the Federal Government.

BSC holds the contract for a group of six local councils — Berrigan, Jerilderie, Conargo, Murray, Wakool and Deniliquin.

The project to date has, in part, modelled various water loss and climate change scenarios to deter- mine the economic impact of those upon the study area.

Berrigan Shire Mayor John Bruce said the modelling to date had proved useful.

‘‘In responding to the draft Murray Darling Basin Plan it would be of great benefit to model the exact proposal as outlined in the draft plan.’’
