The 43rd Vicsuper Murray Marathon is making its way down the Murray River, having started yesterday at Yarrawonga.

This year up to 3,000 participants from around Australia are taking on the challenge as paddlers, support crew and volunteers, in the mighty Marathon.

The Vicsuper Murray Marathon is a major fundraising initiative for YMCA Victoria.

The funds raised during the 2010 Vicsuper Murray Marathon have supported six community projects.

This year’s Vicsuper Murray Marathon aims to raise $50,000 for communities and regions based along the Murray River.

New this year, the Vicsuper Murray Marathon will add some off water activities and provide a social meeting place for paddlers and support crews to unwind after a big day.

The ‘Hub’ will be located at each official campsite and will comprise food outlets and a licensed bar.

Most importantly, it will provide paddlers, support crews and event staff with a relaxed forum in which to catch up on the day’s successes both on and off the water.

The Vicsuper Murray Marathon started in Yarrawonga and will pass through Tocumwal before ending at Swan Hill on New Year’s Eve.
