The first 2012 round of the Foundation of Rural and Regional Renewal’s Small Grants for Small Communities opened on January 30, offering grants of up to $5000.

Chief executive officer Alexandra Gartmann, who announced the funding, said there was a wealth of innovation, commitment and drive in small communities.

‘‘The foundation is constantly amazed at the impact these small grants have.

‘‘Preference will be given to projects that support education, youth, culture, arts, tourism, community heritage; and also community infrastructure, such as town halls.’’

To be eligible projects must benefit an entire community, and be for a population of less than 10,000.

This is a collaborative program that will give out $400,000 in total to rural and remote communities across Victoria and NSW.

Further information is available on the website: or free call 1800 170 020.
