Driver trapped in crashed car

A 19 year-old De­niliquin man sus­tained two bro­ken legs plus other in­juries in a car crash near Ber­ri­gan on Sun­day.

The man was driv­ing north on the Rive­rina Hwy near Rat­cliffs Rd in a Mit­subishi Magna when he al­legedly veered off the western curve of the road and col­lided with a tree about 6pm.

He was trapped by his legs, and had to be freed by emer­gency ser­vices.

He was taken to Al­bury Base Hospi­tal by am­bu­lance, and later taken to Melbourne for surgery.

He had two bro­ken legs plus in­juries on his torso, face and arms.

●●● A 48 year-old Ber­ri­gan man was charged with mid-range drink driv­ing about 5.30pm Wed­nes­day.

The man was pulled over on the Newell Hwy at Fin­ley be­fore be­ing taken to the Fin­ley Po­lice Sta­tion where he al­legedly re­turned a read­ing of 0.104.

His li­cence was sus­pended and he will face court at a later date.
