Man hit by car, airlifted to hospital
A 20 year-old man is being treated for head and spinal injuries in a Melbourne hospital after allegedly being struck by a car on Saturday night.
The man is believed to have been walking home after leaving a licensed Cobram premises when he was hit by the car around 2am, near the Mookarii St roundabout, according to police.
The alleged driver - an 18 year-old former Tocumwal resident - was breath tested at the scene and allegedly returned a reading of 0.132. She is expected to be charged on summons. The 20 year-old man was treated at the scene for injuries and was later airlifted to The Austin in Melbourne.
Well wishes from concerned friends have been left on the man’s Facebook page.
The man plays football for Cobram Tigers and club president Mick Hoban said they were hoping for good news.
‘‘As far as I understand, he has injuries to several vertebrae and some nasty gashes to his head,’’ Mr Hoban said.
‘‘He has been with the club for a long time - he played his junior footy with us and now plays for the reserves side — our thoughts are with him and his family at this time, and we are wishing him a full recovery.’’
