Man hit by car, air­lifted to hospi­tal

A 20 year-old man is be­ing treated for head and spinal in­juries in a Melbourne hospi­tal af­ter al­legedly be­ing struck by a car on Satur­day night.

The man is be­lieved to have been walk­ing home af­ter leav­ing a li­censed Co­bram premises when he was hit by the car around 2am, near the Mookarii St round­about, ac­cord­ing to po­lice.

The al­leged driver - an 18 year-old for­mer Tocumwal res­i­dent - was breath tested at the scene and al­legedly re­turned a read­ing of 0.132. She is ex­pected to be charged on sum­mons. The 20 year-old man was treated at the scene for in­juries and was later air­lifted to The Austin in Melbourne.

Well wishes from con­cerned friends have been left on the man’s Face­book page.

The man plays foot­ball for Co­bram Tigers and club pres­i­dent Mick Hoban said they were hop­ing for good news.

‘‘As far as I un­der­stand, he has in­juries to sev­eral ver­te­brae and some nasty gashes to his head,’’ Mr Hoban said.

‘‘He has been with the club for a long time - he played his ju­nior footy with us and now plays for the re­serves side — our thoughts are with him and his fam­ily at this time, and we are wish­ing him a full re­cov­ery.’’
