Local connection for Lt Col Godden

Southern Riverina news - - ANZAC DAY COMMEMORATIONS 2012 -

Cold winds did not deter the large crowd joining the returned servicemen and women paying tribute to their lost mates on Anzac Day.

Guest Speaker was Lt Col (Rtd) Ian Godden, who was born at Tocumwal Hospital and spent his early years living on the family property ‘Langunyah’ before joining the Air Force.

He went on to have a very distinguished career.

In his address, Lt Col Godden emphasised the need for Australians to keep their Australian values, despite the increased multiculturalism.

He also urged the crowd to make sure future generations keep the Anzac traditions alive.

Public School and Sacred Heart pupils sang The Last Anzac and Lest We Forget, and Finley High School pupils read the prayers.

The commemoration address was presented by Rev Ken Walker from Tocumwal Anglican Church.
