Di makes history with 200 games
Di Sexton played her 200th A grade game for the Finley Netball Club, against Tocumwal, on Saturday.
The industrious midcourter is the first netballer to achieve the double-ton milestone in the club’s history.
Her career is littered with achievements, including A grade best and fairest in 1991, 2005 and 2006, and runners-up accolades in 1997 and 2010.
Di’s skill as a netballer has been punctuated by Murray Netball League selection at inter-league competitions.
She has also played many more A grade netball games in the Picola League (Blighty) and in Canberra.
Her dedication to the sport and Finley Football and Netball Club is not solely as a player.
Until recently, Di has coordinated the Net Set Go netball program for local primary school children.
She ran the program for many years ensuring that Finley girls had a wonderful introduction to the game and a great foundation for their future as a netballer.
Di has also coached junior teams in every age group, most recently the under-12s in 2011 and U-13s in 2009-10. She also coached A grade in the 1990s and most of the 2000s, most recently A grade from 2010-12, and B grade in 2010.
The star centre has successfully completed Foundation and Development Level coaching qualifications and is now completing her Level 2 qualification.
Her dedication to the development and continual improvement of local players at both the junior and senior level is unparalleled.
‘‘She is generous at sharing her wealth of knowledge about the game to all those who want to learn,’’ a club spokesperson said.
‘‘Most of our junior and senior players have had the benefit of Di’s coaching and have learnt a great deal from her.
‘‘Di has also generously donated her time over the years umpiring many games for our club and is a C-badged umpire. She has been an active member of the executive committee every year she has been at the club, and was the president in 1992.
Her longevity at the highest level of country netball and her capacity to give so much to the clubs to which she has belonged sets her apart from her netball peers.
‘‘On behalf of the Finley Football Netball Club, congratulations on a stellar career.’’
There will be a presentation at the clubrooms tomorrow night, about 7pm, to recognise this tremendous milestone. All are welcome to attend.
