Berrigan netball report:
Berrigan hosted Deni Rovers on Saturday in what turned out to be a winless day for the Saints.
C grade: Berrigan 39 lost to Deni Rovers 40. Awards: Simone Fox, Kirsty Willis and Rachael Hamilton.
All our girls defended well today.
Our fourth quarter was fantastic resulting in a 4-goal turnaround.
After a nail biting last quarter we ended up going down by 1 goal in the end.
It was disappointing, however it goes to show that we are a team getting better. Well done girls, a great team effort.
Under 17: Berrigan 19 lost to Deni Rovers 32. Awards: Kayleigh Nolen, Kristen Holmes, Maddy Haintz.
Slow start girls, however in the second half you stepped up and showed everyone what we are made of. Let’s do it again this week.
Under 15: Berrigan 7 lost to Deni Rovers 35. Awards: Ella Fox, Ellie Heazlewood, Tamara Podesta.
Good game Great shooting girls.
by Deni. Fantastic game - we kept up with a very tall team. Need to work on third quarter.
Under 13: Berrigan 14 lost to Deni Rovers 25. Awards: Leah Dalgliesh, Ally Barry, Kaila Luscombe.
The girls played a strong first half and were only down by 1 goal at half time. Unfortunately nerves got the better of us in the second half and we went down.
B grade: Berrigan 27 lost to Deni Rovers 37.
We welcomed for her first game this season B grade coach Bec Ware and sadly said farewell to consistent and reliable defender Catherine Mcnamara for her last game due to an unsustainable foot injury.
It was a highly competitive match as anticipated. Berrigan wasted scoring advantages in the first.
Deni, however, converted early on giving them a 7-goal lead at the end of the first.
The Rovers continued this into the second term as the Berrigan goalies desperately tried to find form.
Hannah Nichols and Arlena Pyle were consistent and as tough as ever through the midcourt, with strong support from Rach Head and Cath Mcnamara in the defensive circle.
But it was in the third quarter where Bec Ware and Maddy Loats began to find their form, with Tegan Nolen passing in and around the ring.
Berrigan outscored the Rovers in the final two quarters, unfortunately the damage had been done in the first half.
Sisters Catherine and Loretta Mcnamara played out a stellar final quarter in GK and GD respectively in a last sign-off for Catherine.
We’ll definitely miss Cath’s skills on the court but know she will still be a positive influence from the sideline directing and guiding girls in the coming games for the season!
Healy Engineering $20 - Catherine Mcnamara, Foxy’s Backhoe $10 - Arlena Pyle, Club Tea - Maddy Loats.
A grade: Berrigan 28 lost to Deni Rovers 69.
