Irrigators welcome new MIL chair
Southern Riverina Irrigators (SRI) has welcomed the announcement of Noel Graham as the new chairman of Murray Irrigation Limited (MIL).
SRI chairman Ted Hatty said Mr Graham has had an extensive background in agricultural industries and his leadership skills would be a valuable contribution to MIL.
‘‘Murray Irrigation, like many rural businesses, faces continuing challenges from a range of government policies.
‘‘MIL has had to face a range of complex issues whilst the region was experiencing severe and prolonged drought, and now new challenges with the MurrayDarling Basin Plan.
‘‘The skill sets and contributions individuals have made to ensure Murray Irrigation’s continued success, as a leading water supply business, expands over many decades.
‘‘It is the personal contributions that so many individuals have made that has allowed Murray Irrigation to continue its role as a successful water distribution company.
‘‘It is important that Murray Irrigation can continue to supply water in the future to our region in the most cost effective way.
‘‘Southern Riverina Irrigators looks forward to working with the new chair of Murray Irrigation to maximise opportunities for this region and to ensure that irrigation continues its vital role in this region.’’
Mr Graham takes over as MIL chair from Stewart Ellis, who shocked the irrigation sector with his resignation earlier this month.
