●●● The Finley Fillies (Red Hat Ladies) was formed over two years ago with the intention of getting together, organising fun outings and enjoying each other’s company. The group is now looking for new members and an invitation is extended to ladies over the age of 50 years who would like to join in the fun to contact Tricia on 5883 1454.
There are no rules except that a red hat and purple top must be worn at all gatherings. There are no fees or executive officers - the sole aim is to meet for lunch and have fun.
So if this sounds like your kind of group, please feel free to call Tricia, join in and make new friends.
●●● Finley High School Year 12 students are working very hard towards their final year’s exams.
However, they took time out recently to hold a cake stall and raffle to raise funds for their graduation and the traditional gift to the school which will be presented at their final assembly.
Winner of the first prize of $50 petrol from BP Finley was Patsy Doyle and second prize ($25 meat voucher from Ashley Haynes Butch-
ery) went to Sasha Congram.
Year 12 would like to thank BP Finley and Ashley Haynes Butchery for their generous donations and continued support of public education.
●●● Geoff Boscombe was the lucky winner of Saturday’s Finley Lions Club wood raffle.
●●● The following news comes directly in the words of Year 6 students at Finley Public School:
‘‘Finley Public School has taken on a big project and we have joined the Finley Farmer’s Market to accomplish our big goal.
What we are aiming to do is create a garden with numerous beds and chooks.
This is part of our schooling and learning to recycle which will give some life lessons.
We have been able to have a lot of help from Mrs. Archibald who has told us about a competition at the farmer’s market.
To win we need to get the most amount of people from our school to vote for us but our supporters have to go to the farmer’s market and vote for Finley Public School.
If we win we get half of the money they received that day from the front gate. This money will go towards the completion of our garden and chooks.
All of the fresh pro- duce will go in our canteen which we will sell to get more money which will keep the garden up and running.
We have done so much work already and we are on our way to finishing, but we need your help to jump the last hurdle. So please support us at Finley Public School.’’
So please show your support of these very industrious young members of our community by attending the Finley Farmer’s Market this Saturday, July 7 and voting for Finley Public School.
●●● The initiative of the Finley Farmer’s Market to contribute half the proceeds of gate donations each month has had a great response from many local community-based organisations.
The following com- munity groups are hoping to gain extra funds; therefore, if you have an interest in any of these groups, please support them at this Saturday’s Market. The group with the most support on the day will benefit.
Berriquin Toy Library/Finley Playgroup are hoping to update their toys and safety equipment, Finley High School Show Team would love some extra funds to help them get to the next Melbourne Show and Finley Public School students are in need of some essentials for their new vegetable garden/chicken run.
For further information about this Saturday’s market, check out the Finley Farmer’s Market on Facebook or contact the co-ordinator on 0466 966 150 or email finleyfarmersmar[email protected]mail.com.
●●● Brave the cold to help renew the old. Local children’s groups the Berriquin Community Toy Library and Finley Playgroup are joining forces to raise much needed funds to purchase new toys and equipment. Head down to the Finley Farmer’s Market this Saturday and submit your vote to make it count to enable them to grab half the gate takings.
