Three groups in running for market money
The shores of Finley lake will come to life again this Saturday with the Finley Farmers’ Market.
Held from 8am to midday, this weekend’s event includes the new ‘Gate for Growth’ promotion.
Market coordinator Ingrid Archibald said the committee has decided to give back to the community through the initiative.
‘‘The ‘Gate for Growth’ scheme will see 50 per cent of the market gate donations given to the community group with the largest amount of support on the market day,’’ she said.
Every person that attends the July market will be asked to show their support for one of the nominated community groups by placing their gate ticket in to the relevant box.
At the end of the market, the number of tickets in each box will be counted and the group with the largest number of tickets will receive half of the gate donations.
Market committee president Jane Harris said nominations were called two weeks ago, and three groups have been chosen for this week’s vote.
‘‘We are thrilled to have the Finley Public School Leadership program, the Berriquin Toy Library/Finley Playgroup and the Finley High School Show team participating in the scheme,’’ she said.
‘‘Obviously, the amount we are able to give to one of these essential community organisations will depend on the number of people that come to the market this Saturday, so we are encouraging everyone to head down to the Finley Lake and show support for these three fantastic causes.’’
The Finley Public School Leadership Program is hoping to take home the donation to raise money for their newly developed vegetable garden/chicken yard.
The Berriquin Toy Library/Finley Playgroup are hoping to raise money for a toy update, some safety equipment and maybe purchase a cappuccino machine for the local Mother's Group.
If it takes home the funding, the Finley High School Show Team will use the money to help send students to compete and participate in showing at the Melbourne Show.
Over the past 10 months, the market committee has worked hard to establish a sustainable market which provides fresh, affordable produce.
Entertainment and the social benefits are also attractions of the market.
