In-form Jer­ilderie side deals a blow to league lad­der lead­ers

Play­ing against Pi­cola North­West di­vi­sion fix­ture’s top side on Satur­day, the Jer­ilderie Football Club se­niors knew they had to come out hard.

The Dees took on Blighty at their home ground.

The boys started very well, at­tack­ing and pres­sur­ing Blighty cre­at­ing some turnovers which re­sulted in sev­eral goals, and were ahead on the score­board at half time nine goals to seven goals.

Af­ter the break both sides kept up the pres­sure, with Blighty’s talls, they started to get back at the Dees win­ning first use out of the mid­dle.

To Jer­ilderie’s credit, when Blighty got within a goal or two the boys would hit back with goals them­selves.

With 16pts and not much time left Blighty got two quick goals and were in at­tack when the siren sounded game.

A great team ef­fort with no pas­sen­gers. This week we wel­come Mathoura and good luck to all teams.

Fi­nal Score: Jer­ilderie 13.9 (87) de­feated Blighty 13.5 (83).

In the re­serves, the Demons again gave away a start af­ter the first quar­ter the boys were able to match it with Blighty in windy con­di­tions, goal kick­ing was hard work.

Ben Nash and Tom Bryce tried hard in the back line with Ian Tay­lor and Scott McGillavary got on top af­ter quar­ter time.

Lachie Wat­son, Lachie Port­bury and Kip Bar­low tried hard.

The thirds started slowly but even­tu­ally got go­ing to record a good win against Blighty in very cold con­di­tions.

Blair played a great game on the ball and Westy was strong across half back.

James Brown­ing was great up for­ward. Joe Bar­low play­ing well be­fore leav­ing the ground at half time to play his first se­niors game.

With a break this week, the team hopes to build some mo­men­tum into the fi­nals.

In the fourths, the young Dees come out on fire from the bounce with great move­ment off the ball through Caleb Catena, Tom Sleigh, Nick Parker and Kobi Howes to Ja­cob Read.

The Dees man­aged eight goals to two in the first. The sec­ond quar­ter was a bit scrappy with the Dees only manag­ing three majors.

Af­ter half time they re­grouped and through great play from Harry Leeds, Caleb Catena, Nick Bald­win and Fraiser Pin­nuick turn the score around with an­other nine goals.

In the fi­nal quar­ter the young Dees prove they can fin­ish well with a good win.
