Merc. fire in Fin­ley

A Mercedes sedan had to be towed in Fin­ley last Thurs­day night af­ter it caught on fire.

Po­lice and fire crews were called to the in­ci­dent, de­scribed as a small engine fire, about 7.50pm, at the Newell Hwy and Os­borne St in­ter­sec­tion.

The driver told po­lice the car’s lights be­gan to dim as it trav­elled north along the high­way.

On in­ves­ti­ga­tion, a small fire was dis­cov­ered in the engine bay of the ve­hi­cle.

There was min­i­mal dam­age, but the car had to be towed.

●●● A 19 year-old Fin­ley man is expected to ap­pear in court on drink driv­ing charges, af­ter be­ing ar­rested on Sun­day.

Po­lice stopped a car be­ing driven near the in­ter­sec­tion of Hamil­ton St and Brook­mans Rd at 1.19am on Sun­day and sub­jected the male driver to a road­side breath test.

Af­ter al­legedly re­turn­ing a pos­i­tive read­ing, he was taken to Fin­ley Po­lice Sta­tion, where a blood al­co­hol read­ing of 0.118 was recorded.

The driver was charged with mid-range pre­scribed con­tent of al­co­hol.
