Paul cho­sen as Lions leader

The Jer­ilderie Lions Club held its 35th changeover din­ner last Mon­day, with guests from Fin­ley and Ber­ri­gan Lions clubs join­ing Jer­ilderie Lions and in­vited guests for the oc­ca­sion.

Spe­cial guests were re­tir­ing Zone Chair­man Omen Ndlovu, and Zone Chair­man elect Brian Hill.

Cr Lau­rie Hen­ery, rep­re­sent­ing the Jer­ilderie Shire, pro­posed the Toast to Lions In­ter­na­tional.

The lo­cal con­stab­u­lary was rep­re­sented by Ta­nia and Shan­non Brad­ford, with Ta­nia giv­ing a brief over­view of their ar­rival and time in Jer­ilderie.

New Lions mem­ber Terry Stephens was in­ducted by in­com­ing Mr Hill.

The Jer­ilderie ex­ec­u­tive mem­bers for 2012/13 is pres­i­dent Paul Ryan, sec­re­tary Richard Wright and trea­surer Mal Camp­bell.

●●● Jer­ilderie Lions will be host­ing the ju­nior pub­lic speak­ing com­pe­ti­tion on Mon­day, July 23 at the Royal Mail Ho­tel.

There will be six chil- dren rep­re­sent­ing each school.

Year 3 and 4 students will be asked to speak to the topic ‘The best book I have read’.

Year 5 and 6 students will be asked to give a eu­logy for a great leader from the past.

●●● Don’t for­get the Princess Linen Party and Body Shop pre­sen­ta­tion, to be held on Mon­day, July 23.

It is be­ing held to raise funds for the Al­bury Wodonga Ac­com­mo­da­tion Cen­tre.

Ev­ery­one is in­vited to the Community Cen­tre at 10am, and to bring a plate to share for morn­ing tea.

●●● The Jer­ilderie li­brary has been a hive of ac­tiv­ity throughout the school hol­i­days.

A fun day was held re­cently, and there have been many chil­dren com­ing and go­ing dur­ing open­ing hours.

●●● In other li­brary news, an on­go­ing ex­hi­bi­tion in the Banksia Room, cour­tesy of Beth McMeekin from Ye Olde Bank of NSW, is an op­por­tu­nity to view el­e­gant, quirky and fun items from a slower-paced era.

It is called ‘Tea for Two’, and the ex­hi­bi­tion will continue dur­ing li­brary open­ing hours un­til Au­gust.

●●● The li­brary looks very homey and com­fort­able with all the beau­ti­ful knit­ted blan­kets for Wraps With Love dis­played around the area.

New large print books are now avail­able, and are al­ways be­ing updated.

You are re­minded of the trial changes in open­ing hours at the li­brary.

On Mon­days, Thursdays and Fri­days it is open from 10am to 5pm, in­clud­ing dur­ing the lunch hour.

On Wed­nes­day the new open­ing hours are 2pm to 6pm, and on Satur­days from 10am to noon.

●●● The Jer­ilderie Football and Net­ball Club is host­ing a Red Car­pet Ball on Satur­day, July 28.
