The Soroptimist Club of Finley had its ‘Meet and Greet’ afternoon at the Finley Motel recently.

The day was designed as a way to welcome new Finley residents to the community, and introduce them to the good work of the club.

Residents who don’t often venture away from home were also encouraged to attend, enabling them to make new friends and adopt new social activities.

Organisers say it was ‘‘a most successful occasion’’, with 21 new residents attending and meeting with other members of the community.

Syd Dudley spoke to the gathering, giving them a very comprehensive history of the area.

He also provided information about town services and activities.

A list of the organisations available in Finley was given to each person so they can follow their own interests.

Soroptimists are happy to help with making contact with any of these associations for them if necessary, organisers said.

The afternoon was made more enjoyable with the provision of a sumptuous afternoon tea.

There was much conversation between people and it was a very happy occasion.

The club intends to stay in contact with all participants, to ensure they have happily settled in.

Club members also plan to hold the meet and greet for new residents annually.
