Thelma back at Red Cross helm

The Ber­ri­gan Red Cross an­nual meet­ing was held on Wed­nes­day, July 18 in the Old Shire Build­ing, with 20 mem­bers at­tend­ing.

All of­fice bear­ers were re­turned un­op­posed - Pres­i­dent Thelma Ryan, vice pres­i­dents Mar­ion Dick­ins and Ian Fox, sec­re­tary Anne Wil­son, trea­surer Lyn­dall Horne and as­sis­tant Inara Fox, shop man­ager Beth Tre­warne and a big wel­come to Rochelle Gra­ham as as­sis­tant sec­re­tary.

Four mem­bers re­ceived long ser­vice recog­ni­tion, Leila Bat­ten and Joan Pyle for 40 years, Moira Arnold 30 years and Diana Collins 20. Con­grat­u­la­tions ladies on your won­der­ful con­tri­bu­tion to Red Cross.

Mem­bers are re­minded of the Church Ser­vice at St Columba’s Church on Sun­day Au­gust 18, at 10.30am.

On Wed­nes­day, Au­gust 15 the branch will cel­e­brate their 98th birthday with a lun­cheon at the Royal Ho­tel at noon.

●●● Na­tional Tree Plant­ing Day is this Sun­day, July 29.

The work gets un­der­way about 9.30am, at the Ama­roo Hos­tel.

Please meet at front of Ama­roo on Davis St, plant­ing of trees will take place around the new walk­ing track.

●●● The community was sad­dened to learn of the pass­ing of Ray Cot- tam last Tues­day, July 17.

He died af­ter a long bat­tle with can­cer.

Ray has had a huge im­pact on our community and be­yond.

Ray’s funeral was last Mon­day in front of a huge crowd from many parts of Aus­tralia.

Sym­pa­thy is ex­tended to Joan, daugh­ter Mandy, Bren­dan and his grand­chil­dren Lach­lan, Cather­ine and Harry.

Our thoughts are also with the Cot­tam fam­ily in Ber­ri­gan - Joe and Carol.

●●● The Ber­ri­gan Drama Club presents Disco In­ferno.

It starts with a three day run on Au­gust 10, 11 and 12, and the fi­nal week­end will be Au­gust 17 and 18.

Tick­ets are $40 per per­son, and can be pur­chased from the post of­fice.
