Pool celebration for opening and birthday
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the opening of the community’s town swimming pool.
To celebrate the milstone, and the opening of the pool for the summer season, a celebration will be held at the facility this Sunday.
Due to donations received by the Berrigan Swimming Pool Committee only last week, entry to the pool is free for the entire season.
Two Berrigan and District Development Association (BDDA) sponsors — John and Paul Lane of DAWMAC Industries and Joe Cottam of Cottam Engineering — have donated a combined $10,000 to enable the pool committee to lift the gate fee.
The pool officially opens this Sunday from 12pm to 6pm.
There will be a sausage sizzle available, Devonshire teas and live music and other entertainment.
Pool committee members encourage all shire residents to make use of this wonderful facility, being beautifully maintained by a hard working volunteer committee.
To help ensure the pool can be open for the community, the committee is looking for volunteers again this year.
If you can help by volunteering three hours of your time for one shift, it would be greatly appreciated.
Volunteer hours to be filled are 3pm to 6pm every day from November 11 to March 15.
The committee is hoping to get enough interest so that everyone only does one three hour shift for the season.
The pool committee is also looking for items relating to Berrigan Pool - photos, newspaper articles and any memorabilia - for an anniversary display.
Anyone who can offer their time, or who has items to donate, is asked to contact Sue Chisholm on 5885 2976.
