Gal­lant Bloods no match for Strathy

Tocumwal trav­elled to Strath­mer­ton on Satur­day for a Round 5 matchup in the Mur­ray Val­ley Cricket As­so­ci­a­tion Premier Grade.

The Bloods started the pro­ceed­ings with the bat.

It was an even con­tri­bu­tion of runs this week, and for a sec­ond week in a row M Barker was the top scorer end­ing the in­nings on 41 not out.

Other bat­ting per­for­mances were Ben Lu­cus 32 and J Poyn­ton 17.

Tocumwal bat­ted out the 45 overs, clos­ing out the in­nings for 136.

The tal­ented Strath­mer­ton team reached this tar­get in the 20th over and only los­ing two wick­ets.

Bowl­ing for Tocumwal: J Poyn­ton 1/40 off 5 overs, S Poyn­ton 1/24 off 5.

Con­grat­u­la­tions to Bran­don Meloury for his first game in the Premier side.

Division Two The Tocumwal side were set to play the Ba­rooga 2 side on Satur­day, but won the game on for­feit.

Un­der 16s

Tocumwal played Co­bram on Fri­day night.

Tocumwal bat­ted in week one of this match against Co­bram with Bran­don Meloury again a stand-out end­ing his bat­ting in­nings on 52 not out.

Other bat­ting per­for­mances for Tocumwal were J Wal­lace on 14.

The boys bat­ted out the 40 overs and were 6/124 at the con­clu­sion of their in­nings.

The ‘Meloury’ show con­tin­ued with brother Bryce tak­ing out the bowl­ing hon­ours this week with a great spell of 4/10 off 6 overs.

Other bowl­ing stats for Tocumwal were J Wal­lace 2/12 off 4, and J Barker and T Saun­ders one wicket each.

Good team ef­fort all around — keep up the great work and hope­fully we will post a few more wins.

Un­der 14s Tocumwal played Jer­ilderie on Satur­day.

Tocumwal bat­ted in the first week of this game, and were all out for 50.

Bat­ting stand-out for this match was Jesse Barker mak­ing 33.

Other bat­ting per­for­mances were D Robi­nett (3) and T Saun­ders (2).

Jer­ilderie took to the crease this week feel­ing con­fi­dent they would make this to­tal and, sadly for this young Toc side, that was the case.

The promis­ing sign for this side is that there were six of their eight bowlers took at least one wicket, but M Gib­son was the stand-out tak­ing 2/13 off 3.

Stick with it boys, you are young and there are quite a few first sea­son play­ers.

Your en­thu­si­asm will surely pay off shortly.

Un­der 12s Tocumwal played Co­bram Yar­roweyah United on Satur­day.

CYU bat­ted first this week and with a cou­ple of big hit­ters in the side set a great tar­get of 162 for our young­sters to chase.

The bowl­ing this week was R Bourne 2/5 off 2, H White, Shem and H Paganonie with one wicket each off of their two overs.

This Tocumwal side have made some great scores re­cently, so gave them­selves a chance of get­ting this score.

T Barker with bonus runs was the top bat­ting scorer on 14 and eight play­ers, while not mak­ing any runs, did not lose their wick­ets so scored the bonus runs for the side.

It was an awe­some ef­fort by this team to only lose three wick­ets.

Un­for­tu­nately they ended their in­nings on 125.

The ma­jor dif­fer­ence this week was the fact that Tocumwal bowled 40 wides.

If we can just bowl a few less it would have been a very close game — great work team.
