NSWEC responds to article
Dear Editor, I refer to your article ‘Local representation under threat’, 7 November 2012, in which it is claimed that the NSW Electoral Commission (NSWEC) has recommended to Parliament that either the MurrayDarling or Murrumbidgee electorates be abolished as part of the 2013 Redistribution of Electoral Districts. This is wrong. The NSW Electoral Commission has made no representations to the Parliament on this matter.
Furthermore the Electoral Commission has no role to play in the redistribution process.
The 2013 Redistribution of Electoral Districts is conducted by the Electoral Districts Commissioners who have only recently been appointed by the Governor.
The redistribution process has yet to begin.
Yours etc, Colin Barry NSW Electoral Commissioner
