Be prepared for bush fires

Southern Riverina news - - NEWS -

With the bushfire season declared early in many parts of NSW due to high fuel loads and the weather heating up, Essential Energy is urging property owners to be prepared.

Essential Energy’s regional general manager Southern, Steven Ilitch, said simple steps could be taken to reduce the risk to property and lives during bushfires.

‘‘Clear vegetation from around the home and leaves and debris out of gutters to help protect your property and reduce a fire’s potential fuel source,’’ Mr Ilitch said.

‘‘Essential Energy checks powerlines regularly to maintain fire safety clearances and recommends property owners keep vegetation at least 15 metres away from overhead lines.’’

Preparation is the key to preventing electrical accidents during a bushfire, whether residents choose to leave an atrisk area or stay and defend their property.
