Southern Riverina news - - NEWS - Anne Freestone

Lorna Pryse, who is currently in Finley Hospital, received a lovely surprise when great grandson Luke, together with his wife Kayla and daughter Kalle, travelled from Boulder, Western Australia to catch up with family.

Five generations were present at the hospital when Lorna’s son Allan, granddaughter Jennifer Taylor (Pryse) great grandson Luke and great great granddaughter Kalle were together.

●●● Finley Pony Club is seeking your support.

The Finley Pony Club is delighted to have been invited to be a contender in the 2012 December Finley Farmers’ Market ‘Gate For Growth’ initiative.

The following is a message from the club:

‘‘The Finley Pony Club’s first rally was held on December 20, 1964 and has continued ever since to provide quality instruction in all aspects of horse ownership and horsemanship.

‘‘It is a friendly and welcoming club which currently has sixteen riding members ranging in age from 4 to 16 years.

‘‘The club is, however, always on the lookout for new members and [we] have set ourselves a goal to grow to over twenty riding members in 2013.

‘‘Our November rally was a special one as all turned up dressed in pink - even the horses - and we donated all our lunch money plus a gold coin donation to support the Cancer Council of Australia.

‘‘We were able to proudly present a grand total of $187.10 to the Cancer Council and hope to do more special days such as this one in the future.

‘‘As we round off another successful and busy year, our next rally is our Christmas rally.

‘‘We are planning a camp over at the show-grounds with everyone setting up camp this Saturday, December 1 and we are going for a trail ride around the cross country course.

‘‘We are hopeful Santa will arrive later in the afternoon, perhaps on horseback, which will be a special treat for all the children young and old.

‘‘On Sunday, we are going to have our normal rally day and DC Kerry Lunn has planned a morning jam-packed with flat riding instruc- tion plus novelty games on horseback.

‘‘The Finley Farmers’ Market is also on this Saturday starting nice and early at 8.00am before the heat of the day and finishing around noon at the Finley Lake.

‘‘Come along and pick up a bargain or two of locally made and grown products and produce.

‘‘Whilst you are there, the Finley Pony Club would greatly appreciate your support and vote in the ‘Gate For Growth’ competition.

‘‘All funds we may receive from this initiative will go directly into purchasing equipment to benefit the young riders our club instructs.

‘‘If you would like more information on our wonderful club, please contact Mrs Sophia Ingram (president) on 5874 2002 or Mrs Kerry Lunn (DC) on 5883 0212.’’

●●● Just a reminder that Finley’s St Joseph’s Catholic School is the recipient of the takings from raffles conducted at the Bowling Club this Friday evening.

School principal Toody Braybon urges all parents and friends to go along and support this wonderful concept of the Bowling Club to assist local organisations financially.

Families are most welcome and meals will be available.

●●● What’s new at this Saturday’s Finley Farmers’ Market?

Santa will make his annual appearance at this market so, if you want to see him arrive in his special ‘‘Finley’’ vehicle, make sure you are at the market by 9.30am.

For those of you who love cherries, it is finally that time of year when you can indulge in the delight of eating cherries, wearing cherry earrings and (for the boys) seeing how far you can spit out those seeds.

There will definitely be one cherry stall and possibly two.

It is also caper season, so the market will have some great caper products. We may be lucky and have some sugar snaps as well.

Local farmer Jack says ‘‘It's touch and go. Need some more sunny weather.’’

Since this market is also the Annual Christmas Market you can pick up some great presents. We are also lucky to have Anita, from Nemesis Glass back again to demonstrate the old-world art of lampworking. And, finally, if you want to create you own personalised Christmas cards, let Julia from POP {photography} take a special photo of you and your family.

What a great market it will be, so don't miss it!
