Local primary school teacher and talented musician Steve Jones has released an impressive debut album ‘The Devil’s Masquerade’ with accompanying film clip from his folk rock band Steve Jones and The Velvet Gloves.

Band members Steve Jones, Mattiss Schubert, Brayden Robb, Ben Baker and Glenn Sears have worked hard to release the album, which boasts a unique line up of instruments such as the violin, mandolin and piano, with influences ranging from rock to country and classical.

Based in Geelong, they often travel in Victoria and NSW with their fantastic live shows.

Mr Jones, who went to Finley High School, studied a music degree at Charles Darwin University.

He now travels to work as a primary school teacher at both St Joseph’s Jerilderie and South Geelong Primary School.

The EP consists of a real, fresh and unique sound with great instrumentation and contains five new songs.

A bonus song, The Ballad Of The Bush

ranger Kelly, won the 2011 Australian Ned Kelly Songwriting Competition in Jerilderie.

‘‘Music means a lot for me,’’ Mr Jones said.

‘‘It’s good to be able to be creative and travel to play gigs.

‘‘We’ve spent a long time getting the album and film clip to fruition and we hope listeners are as just happy with it as we are.

‘‘We had an amazing experience performing at the Queenscliff music festival in 2012 and we hope to get involved in more folk festivals to hopefully garner attention from a record label.’’

Mr Jones, who is the sole writer for the band, said he finds his creative inspiration through his life’s journeys, with many personal anecdotes and relationships with women and whiskey hinted within the album.

The Devil’s Masquerade was recorded at Geelong’s Nova Sounds Studios. The clip was filmed, under direction of filmmakers Jonjiflex, in St Kilda and at the Max Hotel Geelong.
