Tocumwal slips to fifth

Southern Riverina news - - LOCAL CLASSIES -

Five goals from John Walker helped propel Picola United to a gritty Picola & District Football League victory against Tocumwal on Saturday.

The Blues led at every change, but withstood a late burst from the Bloods to prevail by 15 points at Tocumwal Recreation Reserve.

Final score: Picola United 11.10 (76) def. Tocumwal 9.7 (61).

Walker may not have featured on the list of better players for Picola United, but his impact on the scoreboard was pivotal in a low-scoring contest.

Mark Ryan, Tim Scadden, Scott Miles and Darcy Botterill shone for the Blues, with Walker’s five-goal haul comple- mented by three from Tyler Chisholm.

Keith Baron again starred for Tocumwal, while Jacob Hore and coach Daniel Kirchen worked hard.

Dane Maxwell and Michael O’Riordan kicked two goals apiece for the Bloods.

Tocumwal, which beat Jerilderie last week, has now slipped back to fifth on the ladder with a 5-6-1 record.

The Bloods meet fourthplaced Mathoura at Mathoura this Saturday.
