Club celebrates 30th birthday
It has been 30 years since the Finley Horse and Harness Trailing Riding Club was established and to celebrate, the club held a reunion at the Lions Hall at the Finley Showgrounds on Sunday.
More than 30 past and present members attended the social event for a barbecue lunch, which was blessed with sunshine and fine weather.
Two original members and the club’s current copresidents, Ray James and Colin Taylor, were thrilled to receive life memberships on the day.
To thank everyone, they had the honour of cutting the 30th birthday cake which was enjoyed by all.
Affiliated with the Australian Horse Trail Riding Association, the local club meets on the second Sunday of each month for a social ride at various properties and national parks around the Southern Riverina.
Club secretary Julie Loughman said the all-day ride is a relaxing, social time out and encourages anyone to join.
‘‘I love riding through the scrub through the bush by the river,’’ she said.
‘‘We usually have lunch between noon and 1pm and ride off again after lunch, it’s always a good day.’’
Ms Loughman said there are no age restrictions, however members under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
