Senseless home attack
Chair thrown through Finley window
Imagine sleeping peacefully in bed and being woken by one of your windows being smashed.
That’s the fright a 68 year-old Finley man and his wife got on Saturday night when a heavy aluminum chair was thrown through the front window of their Scoullar St home (pictured).
The crashing sound was so loud, the Finley man thought there had been a serious car crash just outside his house.
‘‘We got straight up and found the chair and all the broken glass inside the front family room,’’ the man said.
‘‘We couldn’t see anyone or hear anyone nearby — it’s a mystery.
‘‘It was lucky
it wasn’t a window to our bedroom, which is nearby.
‘‘And had it been a loungeroom where our good furniture is, it would have caused considerably more damage and inconvenience.’’
The unsuspecting home owner, who is sure he’s done nothing to provoke an attack of this kind, said he had heard reports of similar ‘‘sheer stupidity’’ that occurred in Finley that night.
‘‘In Tocumwal St, near the Finley RS Club, a lady who was driving to work about 5am damaged her car because some idiot put large rocks in the middle of the road,’’ he said.
‘‘From my understanding the lady’s car has been damaged quite badly.
‘‘I’d imagine her bill would be more than mine, which I estimate will be about $1000.’’
Believing the two incidents are linked, the man said he was sick and tired of ‘‘foolish’’ behaviour from individuals.
‘‘You look at this, the damage to Railway Park in February and also when bins were burnt in Finley streets earlier last year,’’ he said.
‘‘Haven’t these people got something more productive to do? Don’t they realise their stupidity impacts on other people?
‘‘This style of activity needs to stop.’’
