AFL star adds Berrigan to photo tour
Former AFL star Mark ‘Jacko’ Jackson popped into the Federal Hotel at Berrigan Wednesday last week, much to the delight of publicans Jai and Sid.
Jacko was selling some photos of the Melbourne Cup.
Jacko played professionally for several teams, including Melbourne, St Kilda, Geelong and South Fremantle.
After his football career he became notable for his television appearances, namely the Energizer and Nutri-Grain commercials, along with several feature films.
Jackson has also written an autobiography, Dumb Like a Fox.
The Berrigan Hospital Auxiliary Joan Davis Memorial Rose Show will be held on Friday, October 14 and Saturday, October 15 at the Memorial Hall.
Friday night will be from 7pm to 9pm and a complimentary drink and nibbles will be served on arrival with the entry cost being $10.
Saturday will be from 10am to 4pm with entry $5.
Refreshments will be available all day.
All flower exhibits must be at the hall by 2pm Friday.
Other attractions over the two days will be exhibitions of art, photography and quilting.
Berrigan Show is organising the judging of their Victorian Agricultural Show (VASL) competitions at the Annual Joan Davis Memorial Rose Show.
There are four cooking sections — Rich Fruit Cake and Carrot Cake (Open), and Boiled Fruit Cake and Carrot & Date Muffins (Under 18).
The two photography classes are for Sunrise/Sunset (Open) and Spider Web (Under 18). Photos must have been taken within a 50km radius of Berrigan, and must be unframed but mounted and be no larger than 20cm by 30cm.
The five needlework and handicraft classes include Patchwork, Embroidery, Sewing, Crocheting and Knitting.
All the competition rules and regulations are in the current show schedule.
The entries will need to be in by 9am Friday, October 14 or can be dropped off before to Del Schweicker.
The Children’s Education Class is also been judged and displayed at the rose show.

The launch of Bernadette Wallis' book, The Silent Book, will now take place at the Berrigan Sportsground and not the Berrigan Library as previously advertised.

Barefoot bowls will be starting on Thursday, October 13.
The evening will start at 7pm and $5 is entry per person.

The Berrigan RSL Sub-Branch will be interring a time capsule at this year’s Family Remembrance Day.
Here is your opportunity to submit your entries to be buried inside.
Ideas include letters, paintings, photos, journals, newspaper articles, poetry, stories.
Entries can either be posted to Berrigan RSL Sub-Branch, PO Box 198, Berrigan or bring your entries along to the Family Day.
