AFL star adds Ber­ri­gan to photo tour

For­mer AFL star Mark ‘Jacko’ Jack­son popped into the Fed­eral Ho­tel at Ber­ri­gan Wed­nes­day last week, much to the de­light of pub­li­cans Jai and Sid.

Jacko was sell­ing some pho­tos of the Mel­bourne Cup.

Jacko played pro­fes­sion­ally for sev­eral teams, in­clud­ing Mel­bourne, St Kilda, Gee­long and South Fre­man­tle.

Af­ter his football ca­reer he be­came no­table for his tele­vi­sion ap­pear­ances, namely the En­er­gizer and Nutri-Grain com­mer­cials, along with sev­eral fea­ture films.

Jack­son has also writ­ten an au­to­bi­og­ra­phy, Dumb Like a Fox.

The Ber­ri­gan Hospi­tal Aux­il­iary Joan Davis Memo­rial Rose Show will be held on Fri­day, Oc­to­ber 14 and Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 15 at the Memo­rial Hall.

Fri­day night will be from 7pm to 9pm and a com­pli­men­tary drink and nib­bles will be served on ar­rival with the en­try cost be­ing $10.

Satur­day will be from 10am to 4pm with en­try $5.

Re­fresh­ments will be avail­able all day.

All flower ex­hibits must be at the hall by 2pm Fri­day.

Other at­trac­tions over the two days will be ex­hi­bi­tions of art, pho­tog­ra­phy and quilt­ing.

Ber­ri­gan Show is or­gan­is­ing the judg­ing of their Vic­to­rian Agri­cul­tural Show (VASL) com­pe­ti­tions at the An­nual Joan Davis Memo­rial Rose Show.

There are four cook­ing sec­tions — Rich Fruit Cake and Car­rot Cake (Open), and Boiled Fruit Cake and Car­rot & Date Muffins (Un­der 18).

The two pho­tog­ra­phy classes are for Sun­rise/Sun­set (Open) and Spi­der Web (Un­der 18). Pho­tos must have been taken within a 50km ra­dius of Ber­ri­gan, and must be un­framed but mounted and be no larger than 20cm by 30cm.

The five needle­work and hand­i­craft classes in­clude Patch­work, Em­broi­dery, Sew­ing, Cro­chet­ing and Knit­ting.

All the com­pe­ti­tion rules and reg­u­la­tions are in the cur­rent show sched­ule.

The en­tries will need to be in by 9am Fri­day, Oc­to­ber 14 or can be dropped off be­fore to Del Sch­we­icker.

The Chil­dren’s Ed­u­ca­tion Class is also been judged and dis­played at the rose show.

The launch of Ber­nadette Wal­lis' book, The Silent Book, will now take place at the Ber­ri­gan Sports­ground and not the Ber­ri­gan Li­brary as pre­vi­ously ad­ver­tised.

The evening will start at 7pm and $5 is en­try per per­son.
