TAFE helped Le Shai reach career goals early
When Le Shai Morris realised she could start working towards a qualification in childcare as part of her Year 12 studies, it felt almost too good to be true.
Thanks to TAFE NSW Riverina Institute, she was able to study the TAFE delivered Vocational Education and Training (TVET) course in Early Childhood Education and Care while completing school.
By doing so, she gained a head start in the Certificate III qualification, which she is now completing at TAFE Riverina's Deniliquin Campus.
She said it’s a path other students should consider to make reaching their career goals more simple.
‘‘I had thought about being a nanny for about three years, but to be a nanny I knew I would need a Certificate III in Childcare,” the 19-year-old Finley student said.
“Then I thought, why not do it while I’m still at school?’’
Le Shai said because the TVET course was part of her Year 12 studies, it didn’t add to her workload.
‘‘It was a really good thing for me to do . . . and to have that qualification coming out Year 12 is really helpful,” she said.
Completing the course has provided Le Shai with a strong platform to find employment in the industry, whenever she chooses to seek work.
‘‘I’m still tossing up the idea of whether to do the Diploma or just enter the workforce next year,’’ she said.
