Flood has peaked in Jerilderie

Southern Riverina news - - SOUTHERN RIVERINA FLOODS -

The Billabong Creek at Jerilderie is believed to have peaked yesterday and is starting to drop.

At the time of going to print yesterday is was just over 2.2m.

Murrumbidgee Council general manager Craig Moffitt said while it is dropping, he said it will be a slow process.

‘‘It is going to be a long and high creek, and we are starting to consider sandbagging some properties — we may not need to but we are considering it.

‘‘There has been some nuisance flooding around the Jerilderie area with some water across roads but it’s not having too much of an impact.

‘‘There is also still storm water across some roads, which is causing damage.

‘‘There has been major flooding of crops in the area.’’

Mr Moffitt said the main threat for the council area is at Darlington Point but ‘‘not so much Jerilderie’’.
