Two losses to start pen­nant sea­son

Finley BC It was a tough start to the new pen­nant sea­son when both di­vi­sions were com­fort­ably de­feated on Satur­day.

Di­vi­sion 2 played Nu­murkah Golf and only had one win­ning team which in­cluded G.Close, S.John­son, B.An­der­son and Gail Welsh.

The fi­nal re­sult was 2/10, with the shots 66/105.

Di­vi­sion 3 trav­elled to Ba­rooga and was soundly de­feated, 10/0 with shots 86/60.

Most had dif­fi­cul­ties han­dling the syn­thetic greens.

Satur­day pen­nant teams, Div 2 v Nathalia, at home: A.Haines (s), N.Barnes, R.Wood, N.Wilson; Nan Smith (s), B.Robin­son, B.Mi­son, B.Poore; M.Han­nan (s), H.Tabe, L.McKel­lar, G.Trevor­row.

Div 3 v Tocumwal, at home: K.Bergmans (s), H.Robin­son, N.Cole, M.Koschel; A.Cowan (s), J.Maxwell, B.Boyd, B.Gra­ham; R.Clay­ton(s), S.Walsh, R.Koschel, L.Bergmans.

The Mark II Au­to­mo­tive spon­sored Mixed Triples event was successful with the win­ning com­bi­na­tion be­ing Pres­i­dent G Close, R.Clay­ton and R.Wood win­ning three games be­ing plus 28 shots.

The r-up side was D.Polk­inghorne (s), J.Thomas and I. Reynolds, three games plus 12 shots.

Best first game was K.Bruce’s team (Tocumwal); sec­ond game, S.John­son, and third game was shared by O.Corcoran’s side.

Rep­re­sen­ta­tive of Mark 11 Au­to­mo­tive Tony Smith made the pre­sen­ta­tion.

Bowls Sec­re­tary Heather was loud in her praise for the cater­ing ladies and all staff.

All play­ers are re­quired to prac­tice for pen­nant matches and are in­vited to play in the so­cial event each Thurs­day.

The most re­cent win­ning pair for the so­cial bowls was Billy Smith and J.Maxwell.

The com­pe­ti­tion on Sun­day re­sulted in a drawn game.

Twi­light bowls is sched­uled for Thurs­day, com­menc­ing at 6.30pm, with teams of three re­quired to be in by 5.30pm.

The ben­e­fit evening, to aid Colleen Rock­liffe, was sim­ply out­stand­ing. A sum of $11,113 was raised, due to the par­tic­i­pat­ing peo­ple of Finley and dis­trict.

Colleen’s re­sponse was ap­pre­ci­ated by all present. This is a great re­sult to as­sist this pop­u­lar per­son. Good luck, Colleen.

Finley RS Club The team of Rod Brown, David Cordell and War­ren Blanch played at Nathalia on Thurs­day and blitzed all games com­ing out with a great win. Well done to them.
