Fa­ther John’s big an­niver­sary

A won­der­ful celebration was held last Sun­day for Fr John McGrath’s 40th an­niver­sary of Or­di­na­tion to the Priest­hood.

Fa­ther John’s nine sib­lings and their fam­i­lies at­tended the oc­ca­sion.

Fam­ily trav­elled from Dar­win, Robe, Lee­ton, Albury, Can­berra, Nu­murkah and Fin­ley.

It was a great gath­er­ing of the lo­cal com­mu­nity and be­yond with peo­ple trav­el­ling from Mel­bourne, Corowa, Wagga, Lock­hart, Yar­ra­wonga, Jer­ilderie, Fin­ley, Oak­lands and Ba­rooga.

A lunch was en­joyed by all at the Memo­rial Hall and Fa­ther McGrath had a won­der­ful day catch­ing up with fam­ily and friends.

The highly an­tic­i­pated per­for­mance of the play Carpe Diem will be held in Ber­ri­gan tonight.

Star­ring pop­u­lar Aus­tralian tele­vi­sion ac­tor John Woods, best known for his role in Blue Heel­ers, is is being hosted by the Ber­ri­gan Am­a­teur Dra­matic So­ci­ety and Ber­ri­gan Shire Coun­cil.

Set in a ru­ral town, Carpe Diem is a con­tem­po­rary por­trayal of ev­ery­day Aus­tralian males deal­ing with is­sues of health, grief, loss and de­pres­sion.

It is an entertaining look at how friend­ship and proper care give a man the strength to cope.

Doors open at 6pm with Cur­tains up at 6.30pm. Din­ner will fol­low at 7.15pm.

The Ber­ri­gan Car­a­van Park will be hav­ing a Ber­ri­gan Cup Re­cov­ery Break­fast on Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 30 from 8am.

Egg and ba­con rolls, tea and cof­fee will be on the menu and all money raised will be do­nated to the Ber­ri­gan Swim­ming Pool.

The open­ing of the Ber­ri­gan Swim­ming Pool will be Fri­day, Novem­ber 18.

It will be open that day from 3pm un­til late.

En­try is free and a sausage siz­zle will be avail­able.

The an­nual RSL Re­mem­brance Fam­ily Day will be held on Sun­day, Novem­ber 6 at the RSL start­ing at 11am.

There will be lunch served, en­ter­tain­ment will be pro­vided by Ray Macart­ney and Damien Tay­lor and a spin­ning wheel with lots of prizes up for grabs.

This Sun­day, the Ber­ri­gan Cricket Club will hold a Cal­cutta at the Royal Ho­tel start­ing at 2pm. Tick­ets are $2 each or $50 per book.

Tick­ets can be pur­chased at the Royal Ho­tel.
