Finley workshop on grass weeds

Southern Riverina news - - NEWS -

Agronomists and interested growers are invited to a Grains Research and Development Corporation workshop focusing on post-emergent grass herbicides, including non-selective herbicides.

ICAN senior consultant and integrated weed management expert Mark Congreve said as the grains industry struggles with ever increasing herbicide resistance, these effective tools are coming under increasing pressure to perform.

‘‘We need to fully understand how each mode of action works and how to maximise its performance, as they are not as robust and forgiving as they were in the past before resistance,’’ Mr Congreve said.

‘‘This workshop starts with the biochemistry and physiology of how the herbicides work, then looks at how this knowledge influences product performance under dif- ferent situations and how this can be optimised.

‘‘This is the latest information, so every agronomist attending will learn something new whether they’ve been in the paddock for one year or 20.’’

The workshop will focus on the primary modes of action used to target grass weeds and will be held at Finley RS Club from 8.30am to 12.30pm on June 22. The workshop will be in a small group format and participant numbers will be limited.

Cost is $50 and preregistration is essential. Contact ICAN on (02) 9482 4930 or [email protected]rural.com.au.
