Blanch new Mur­ray Di­vi­sion pres­i­dent

Fin­ley RS Our own War­ren Blanch has taken the pres­i­dent’s po­si­tion on the Mur­ray Di­vi­sion Board.

Vice pres­i­dent is Marj McDon­ald, trea­surer Pam Van Huiezen and sec­re­tary Ken Shields.

We wish them well for the 2017-18 sea­son.

Our win­ter 2:4:2 com­pe­ti­tion has started and will be played ev­ery Tues­day at 12.30pm. Names to the club.

Fin­ley BC Ex­cel­lent en­tries were re­ceived for the in­au­gu­ral ‘Poore Bob’ pairs, held to hon­our the Queen’s Birth­day cel­e­bra­tions.

The club thanks Bob Poore for his gen­er­ous spon­sor­ship.

The com­pe­ti­tion was keenly fought with vis­it­ing play­ers from Tocumwal, Jer­ilderie, Fin­ley RS, Co­bram and Gos­ford clubs.

The greens were su­perb and play­ers were able to pro­duce their best shots.

Win­ners were Bob Ryan and Kevin Hovey (3 games, 48 points), while Bob Birthisel’s team (3/47) were runners-up. Third place was Lucy G and Mary from Jer­ilderie with 21⁄ games.

Best scores: 1st game - Billy Smith 20 shots; 2nd game - G Haines 11 shots; 3rd game - B Cos­grove. En­cour­age­ment award to Ray and Nola Wood.

Steve John­son ‘rep­re­sented’ our Queen and made hon­orary ‘knight­hoods’ to sev­eral mem­bers who had per­formed many tasks over time.

Thanks to those who helped with ca­ter­ing, es­pe­cially the Poker play­ers led by John Mont­gomery, and our green­keeper for ex­cel­lent greens, and all staff.

So­cial bowls on Thurs­day is at­tract­ing play­ers to en­joy ex­cel­lent con­di­tions. Win­ners were Bob Poore, Ray Koschel and Betty Robin­son.

Sun­day morn­ing is pop­u­lar with the play­ers also. Win­ners were Mike Hen­shaw and Marie Koschel.

A Sun­day morn­ing ac­cu­mu­la­tor will start July 2 and will run for seven play­ing days, with play­ers’ best five scores to count for the fi­nal awards.

The ben­e­fit evening on Fri­day, held to sup­port ‘The ra­tion chal­lenge by the seven High School stu­dents’ (as fea­tured in the SRN) was suc­cess­ful. Each of the stu­dents present spoke about the cause and the ben­e­fit to refugees. In to­tal $836 was raised.

A ben­e­fit evening will be held this Fri­day to as­sist Fin­ley Pony Club to pro­vide es­sen­tials for mem­bers.

A trivia evening will be held on Satur­day, June 23 from 6.30pm to as­sist St Joseph’s School. Book­ings are be­ing taken at the club.

Meals are avail­able from 6pm on Fri­day and Thurs­day evenings. Fri­day’s mem­bers’ draw still stands at $1000 while the Sun­day morn­ing draw is at $500.
