Fin­ley to host soc­cer

Over 300 young­sters from the Co­bram Ju­nior Soc­cer As­so­ci­a­tion (CJSA) will con­verge on the fields at the Fin­ley Show­ground and Sport­ing Com­plex this Satur­day for the fi­nal time this sea­son.

Play­ers and their fam­i­lies will also be trav­el­ling from Tocumwal, Yar­ra­wonga, Co­bram, Oak­lands, Ber­ri­gan, Jer­ilderie and Strath­mer­ton for the day’s play.

CJSA vice-pres­i­dent Mick Wane said it’s a fan­tas­tic day to pro­mote the town.

‘‘When soc­cer comes to Fin­ley it is seen by many as a great op­por­tu­nity to show­case our great town,’’ he said.

‘‘With this in mind there will be many lo­cals mak­ing their con­tri­bu­tion to en­sure that it is the best ex­pe­ri­ence pos­si­ble.’’

Some fam­i­lies will be baking cakes and do­nat­ing lol­lies for the stall, Fin­ley Lit­tle Ath­let­ics will run the bar­be­cue, Julie Ma­conachie from the Teapot Cafe will be op­er­at­ing her mo­bile cof­fee busi­ness Fin­ley Cof­fee Beans, and Fin­ley Bak­ery owner An­drew Richard­son has gen­er­ously do­nated a ‘Fin­ley Bak­ery Award’ for each of the 30 teams.

‘‘With the Fin­ley footy and net­ball teams also play­ing at home, Fin­ley will be the place to be to get your sport­ing fix,’’ Wane said.

‘‘It will be great to see many lo­cals on the side­lines to wel­come the many ex­pected vis­i­tors.’’

The day will start at 9am with the first game of soc­cer kick­ing off at 9.30am.
