The Tocumwal Public School equestrian team rode to third place overall at the Barastoc Interschool Qualifier competition held in Elmore recently.

Almost 200 primary and secondary school-aged students from across Victoria and NSW competed in 45 teams.

Jemma Reid, Mackenzie Loughridge and Alexandra Laker, along with a dedicated support crew, braved some cold weather to compete in the two day event which included show jumping, dressage, show classes, games and handy mount classes.

Over the weekend points were allocated to the placegetters and at the end of the competition these were tallied and the top six teams from primary and secondary were sashed.

‘‘The team from Tocumwal did extremely well with all three girls consistently finishing in the places or top ten,’’ team manager Nicole Laker said.

‘‘At the end of the weekend we were excited to hear they placed third overall for the Primary Composite Competition.

“We’re extremely proud of the girls and excited that they represented the school in the Interschool Challenge.

‘‘This has been our best result to date and all have qualified for Barastoc later on in the year.

‘‘We thank the families who took the girls over to Elmore and congratulate all involved on the marvellous result for all their hard effort.”
